TheisGrid

TheisGrid is a specialized analytical modeling tool within Groundwater Desktop (GWD) designed to rapidly simulate transient groundwater level changes. It bridges the gap between simple manual calculations and complex numerical models like MODFLOW by providing a gridded, spatially distributed visualization of the Theis (1935) solution

TheisGrid is part of the many tools incorporated into Groundwater Desktop specifically built to:

  • Model Pumping Impacts: Calculate the cumulative drawdown or mounding from an arbitrary number of extraction and injection wells operating on independent schedules.
  • Incorporate Regional Trends: Unlike a standard Theis calculation, TheisGrid superimposes transient well effects onto a planar regional groundwater surface, accounting for natural E-W and N-S hydraulic gradients.
  • Generate High-Resolution Surfaces: The tool produces gridded maps (rasters) of hydraulic head that can be immediately visualized in GWD's 3D Viewer alongside other site data like shapefiles and imagery.
  • Support Capture Zone Analysis: The resulting surfaces can be used to calculate particle tracks and the capture zones of pumping wells, essential for environmental remediation and water rights management.
